NOIO (Non-instrument Orientation, an Introduction to Oceanic wayfinding)
Keiki, grades K-12, to Kupuna

As a teacher or community event coordinator, you can choose from the following NOIO journeys:

NOIO I: Ka Pānānā Hōkū - Hawaiian Star Compass:
Duration: 1 hour
Capacity: 25 students per session (30 maximum)
Call or email for further information.

This interactive journey introduces participants to the basic skills essential to the practice of the oceanic art of non-instrument navigation, or wayfinding.

Just as in a seaside canoe house, participants are invited to remove their shoes and take a seat on a mat, where they will learn about the Hawaiian Star Compass, orientation and how to hold direction, just as a navigator does, by calibrating their body and mind to the pulse of the patterns within their environment.
NOIO II: Ke Ala Hōkū  - Star Paths:
Duration: 1 hour
Capacity: 25 students per session (30 maximum)
Call or email for further information.

For generations the starry heavens have been a constant companion to oceanic wayfinders as they navigated from island to island. This experience invites participants into ʻImiloaʻs customized digital portable planetarium, specially outfitted with Polynesian navigation content, to learn about Nā ʻOhana Hōkū ʻEhā, the Four Star Families, and the pathways that led early Polynesian explorers as well as our modern day voyagers to and from our shores.

NOIO III: Ka Pānānā Hōkū  & Ke Ala Hōkū
Duration: 1 hour
Capacity: 25 students per session (30 maximum)
Call or email to further inquire.
