Wine, Dine and Dive into Fungi at ʻImiloa!

The first of our new twilight event series features the planetarium film, Fungi: Web of Life, wine tasting, pupu, and a presentation on Hawaiʻi fungi by “Mushroom Man,” Dr. Don Hemmes. Get immersed in the magical kingdom of fungi during a spore-tacular and engaging evening, with wine and food provided by Lehua Restaurant.

About Dr. Hemmes

Dr. Hemmes taught cell and molecular biology at UH-Hilo for over 40 years and retired in 2007. After a career in biology studying the spore formation and germination in fungi by transmission electron microscopy, he received a National Science Foundation grant to study mushrooms of Hawai’i. For 25 years Dr. Hemmes and his colleagues have been describing Hawaiian fleshy fungi found from mountain tops to sea shores on the major Hawaiian Islands.

About the film

Much of life on Earth is connected by a vast, hidden network that we are only just beginning to understand, and through the eyes of passionate biologist and writer Merlin Sheldrake, this film takes you on a brilliant round-the-world journey into the secret world of fungi.
