Hawaiʻi I Ke Alo
As part of our Hawaiʻi I Ke Alo program, the ʻImiloa Astronomy Center of Hawaiʻi at UH-Hilo is dedicated to enhancing workforce capacity in digital media production. Our goal is to expand Hawaiian Language medium (HLM) digital media resources, supporting Hawaiian language literacy and normalization from preschool through higher education, and reaching the broader community. Under the Hawaiʻi I Ke Alo Program, ʻImiloa Astronomy Center hosts video production courses, internships, and workshops to address this critical need. Below are some of the resources our team has created in collaboration with Ke Kula ʻo Nāwahīokalaniʻōpuʻu and Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani College of Hawaiian Language at the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo.
Kīpuka Moʻolelo
Kīpuka Moʻolelo is a series exploring the contemporary use of the Hawaiian language, culture, and perspective in the areas of education, politics, music, and advocacy. Over the course of the series, we learn about the journey of a few early proponents of the Hawaiian language revitalization movement as well as others who are pushing ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi into new domains. Our ʻImiloa interns helped to produce, write, film, edit, and host this series as their summer project.
