Never Lost

Exploratorium x ʻImiloa Wayfinding Education Resource NOW AVAILABLE!

Explore the voices of master navigators and voyaging leaders across Hawaiʻi. Never Lost is a restored digital archive created in collaboration with the Exploratorium, featuring interviews and insights on Hawaiian wayfinding, now translated into ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi.

In 2010–2012, ʻImiloa Astronomy Center partnered with the Exploratorium to capture the stories and teachings of Hawaiʻi’s ʻohana waʻa. The result was Never Lost, a digital archive of interviews with cultural practitioners, voyagers, and navigation experts.

Lost for a time due to the demise of Adobe Flash, Never Lost has been revived with updated access, full Hawaiian language translations, and renewed visibility.

Released anew in January 2025, this resource remains deeply relevant today—as Hōkūleʻa continues her Moananuiākea voyage, Never Lost offers a rich context for understanding the genealogy of knowledge that continues to guide our sails.
