"He Lani Ko Luna", A Sky Above In Losing the Sight of Land, You Discover the Stars. A presentation on voyaging, oceanic exploration and way-finding.

On June 18th, ʻImiloa Astronomy Center and the Emil Buehler Perpetual Trust Planetarium at Seminole State College of Florida in Orlando presented a 1.5-hour virtual public program titled, He Lani Ko Luna, A Sky Above, In losing the Sight of Land You Discover the Stars. ʻImiloa staff, Kālepa Baybayan, MEd, Navigator in Residence, and Emily Peavy, MEd, Planetarium Technician, co-presented the afternoon’s program. Topics of the presentation included deep-sea canoe voyaging, exploration, and oceanic history; wayfinding, the indigenous system of navigation and orientation at sea; and Nā ʻOhana Hōkū ʻEhā, The Four-Star Families, an orientation to the oceanic night sky.
